What is Acupressure therapy?

Acupressure is a form of touch therapy that utilizes the principles of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. In acupressure, the same points on the body are used as in acupuncture, but are stimulated with finger pressure instead of insertion of needles. Acupressure is used to relieve a variety of symptoms and pain.

What is the origin of Acupressure therapy?

The oldest known text specifically on acupuncture points, the Systematic Classic of Acupuncture, dates back to 282 a.d. Acupressure is the non-invasive form of acupuncture, as Chinese physicians determined that stimulating points on the body with massage and pressure could be effective for treating certain problems. One legend has it that acupuncture and acupressure evolved as early Chinese healers studied the wounds of Chinese warriors, noting that certain points on the body created helpful healing results when stimulated.

What are the benefits of Acupressure therapy?

Acupressure therapy can increase energy and feelings of well-being, reduce stress, and stimulate the immune system. Acupressure therapy can also be very effective both as prevention and as a treatment for many health conditions, including headaches, general aches and pains, colds and flu, arthritis, allergies, asthma, nervous tension, menstrual cramps, sinus problems, sprains, and tennis elbow, among others.

Which type of therapy session is best for me?

A sixty-minute session provides enough time to apply momentary pressure to specific points over the entire body. Regular sessions should be a good addition to a healthy lifestyle. A ninety minute session has the advantage of providing more time to release tension, as pressure can be applied longer to each specific point. The sixty and ninety minute sessions can be either dry, or with oil. The dry option is good for people who prefer a more traditional acupressure session focusing on pressure points only. The oil option provides a more modern treatment combining pressure point release along with longer soothing strokes to provide the deepest relaxation. Most clients prefer the Acupressure/Oil type of treatment.

How is the session tailored to my specific needs?

Our goal is to provide the best services, as such, we provide a short questionnaire at booking that allows you to communicate your preferences such as pressure levels, areas requiring more focus, areas to avoid, and type of oil used in therapy.
